Building Upon The Christian Foundation
Don't be religious! Religion is the act of doing something repetitiously. That's what traditions are about. Ironically, the only people that Jesus fought against were the ones who were the religious –in fact, they were the ones who crucified Him!
Another person who spent most of his life fighting religion and being persecuted by those practicing it was Paul. His letters record the numerous times when he was trying to un-teach religious training. That religion is just as prevalent today in our churches. It's disguised in the form of "basic doctrines" and "Christian traditions".
God has told us many times in the Bible that we should not be fooled by fine sounding arguments and traditions. Rather, God wants us to know His truth so that it can set us free. That's not only free from the wages of sin, but also from the many forms of bondage related to religion.
In this section are the foundational truths each Christian should have been taught from his youth. They are the very issues that can hold us back –keeping us infants, or they can free us to grow into maturity in the Lord. These include: What Baptism is really about; Law vs. Grace –the radical and yet subtle differences between them; Identity in Christ –the real you; Reconciliation –God Reconciled men to Himself and wants us to be Reconciled to Him; Speaking in Tongues –it's not what you've heard over the years; and Dying to the Law.
Be Reconciled to God
Accept one another, then, just as Christ accepted you, in order to bring praise to God. (Romans 15:7 - NIV)
